Happy Independence Day!

Dear Fellow Owners,

Today we celebrate the founding of our great nation. We celebrate the birth of a country built by all of us. We celebrate during a time of harsh reality. We are faced with a life threatening virus which limits our ability to celebrate and social unrest which questions our moral right to do so.

America is not perfect, we never claimed to be. Winston Churchill said “Many forms of Goverment have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all others that have come before it.” America has led the democratic experiment for the rest of the world to follow. We are still the shining city on the hill. We are still the beacon of hope for the oppressed around the world. Our Lady of Liberty still asks for “your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

We will always strive to improve. That is the true definition of American Exceptionalism. Even in our overwhelming strength, we are open to improvement and critic. We don’t rest on our laurels. We can and will do better.  It is still morning in America. We are green and growing, 244 years young.

Last year I wrote about the 4th of July being the common ground we all enjoy. I likened it to McDonald’s and Apple Pie. Common ground is in short supply these days. It’s up to all of us to keep McDonald’s the common ground. To keep McDonald’s the shining city within the shining city. Now more than ever. God Bless.

Your NOA Chair,
Blake
